The George T. "Bubba" Hampton True Friends Endowment was established
by the United Way Board of Directors in March 2006 to allow funds to
be contributed to a special account to offset operational expenses
for United Way of East MS and West AL. Thad Quarles, Executive Director,
said that these funds will reduce the operational budget so that
even more contributions can be directed to solving the community's
most pressing needs.
"One of our organizational objectives all along is to reduce our
operational budget to zero. This is the first step," Quarles
said. "Currently about 12 cents on the dollar go toward United
Way's operational budget, and that compares favorably with the
national average for charities, which is about 23 cents, but we are
not satisfied even with 12 cents. We want it at zero."
Contributions to United Way go to 16 member
agencies and help to fund community impact
initiatives such as RAGs to Riches, Supply Our Students, and
Rebuild East Mississippi.
